Dermaplaning! You’ve likely heard of it and you may have even had it done. But like with most things, there are a lot of myths about the process. Alongside the launch of our Metal Dermaplaning Facial Exfoliation Kit, we asked a beauty expert to explain the facts relating to the process. We’re finding out what's true and what’s nonsense about dermaplaning, so that you can worry no more.
5 Dermaplaning Myths
Myth 1: Your peach fuzz will grow back quicker and darker
Let's start with the big myth!! This is the most popular rumour when it comes to dermaplaning, however, we can confirm that it’s NOT true. Your vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz, will grow back after as it's only a temporary method of removal, not permanent, but hair will not grow back thicker or darker; it will grow back the same texture as before and grows back at the same rate. Phew!
Myth 2: Dermaplaning will cause breakouts
Fun fact dermaplaning can help prevent breakouts rather than cause them. By removing the top layer of dead skin cells, dermaplaning can help prevent cells from being trapped in the pores which then cause breakouts. The less dead skin there is, the less breakouts are caused.
Myth 3: Dermaplaning is time-consuming
Dermaplaning is super easy for on-the-go beauty queens, or for a nice self-pamper time at home. The process usually only takes 3 to 5 minutes to complete. However, give yourself a few more minutes the first few times as it may take you a little bit longer as you get used to dermaplaning yourself.
Myth 4: It's painful to dermaplane
Dermaplaning is actually one of the least painful hair removal methods there is compared to waxing, plucking and threading. Shaving your body isn’t painful so neither is your face, as long as used correctly by following our step-by-step guide.
Myth 5: Dermaplaning is the same as shaving
Dermaplaning is like shaving with a razor as it helps remove unwanted facial hair, but that’s about all they have in common. The special thing about dermaplaning is that it’s focused on exfoliation by removing more than just vellus hair, but dead skin cells too. Reducing fine lines and wrinkles and promoting new cell growth to make your face look more youthful.
We can hear you asking, so here are just some of the benefits of dermaplaning:
